Dear Friends of L'Abri,
Most of you will now know that our Heavenly Father has taken dear Edith Schaeffer to himself. She passed away quietly in her sleep on Easter Saturday, March 30th 2013, at the age of 98. She was living at home, in the care of her family, in Gryon, Switzerland. Words cannot express how deep is our gratitude for her life and we thank the Lord that she is now enjoying the Hope that she so longed for and the rest she so deserved.
"I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in me will Live, even though he dies." John 11:25
The family arranged for her funeral in Gryon, Switzerland on April 19th and then there was a service in St. Paul and a graveside service in Rochester, Minnesota on April 25th, where she was laid to rest alongside Dr. Schaeffer.
Rochester L'Abri Memorial Service:
Mrs. Schaeffer lived for some 18 years in Rochester, Minnesota, where she founded the Rochester branch of L'Abri. The Rochester L'Abri hosted a public Memorial Service in her honor in Rochester on Saturday, May 11th. A tea reception followed. We were delighted that Larry Snyder lead the service and Jerram Barrs spoke.
The full Order of Service contains two written tributes by Ranald Macaulay and Susan Schaeffer Macaulay - it can be accessed here. (PDF Download)
The Service and Reception were beautifully arranged by many volunteers. Photographs of the event can be accessed below.
The full audio recording of the Service including the tributes by Larry Snyder and Jerram Barrs can be accessed below. (Please note that it takes a few minutes for the audio files to load. Please note also that the congregational signing during the hymns was unfortunately not picked up in the recording)
