Direction to L’Abri

Google Map Directions
Driving -When you come to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry go to Gate #7/#8 on the far right. After paying, follow the far left lane, #1, until you arrive at the stop sign. Someone will direct you underneath to Lanes 67 – 70, where someone will direct you onto the ferry when it arrives. It helps to get to the dock about half an hour before sailing time to make sure you get a place. Also, ferry times continually change, so please visit the BC Ferry website in order to get the most current times. (See below.)

Once you are on Bowen, drive straight up the hill through the town and just keep going on the main road (Grafton Road). There are intersections that you will go through but you stay on the main road that leads to Tunstall Bay. The road winds along the valley floor. After about 4 km you pass a building supply yard (the Irly) on your left, and then the nursery on your right. Just after the Bowen Island Nursery, the road turns 90 degrees to the left and then about 30 meters further along the main road takes a 90-degree turn to the right. (Do not go off onto Cowan Road, the gate is closed at the top of the hill.) Continue on the main road (now Adams Road), and take the next left, where a sign is posted "Cowan Point Road, Fairweather". This is Sunset Rd. You will go up a hill and out of the valley. You will eventually pass a lake (Josephine Lake) on your left and immediately after the lake, on the down slope of the steep hill, you will turn left onto Salal Road. Go right to the end of Salal road, into the cul-de-sac, and past the Restricted Road sign, into the trees, and then, just before the gate, turn right up our little hill and then right again up our drive way. Look for the 511 Cowan L'Abri sign. (See detailed map above.)

On Foot – There is good service from the airport to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. Make sure that you have enough CDN change for the transit!

From the airport, you will catch The Canada Line, which will take you to downtown Vancouver. The fare is approximately $2.50 CDN; get a transfer ticket, if possible. Then you will catch the #257, the Horseshoe Bay Express (or the #250 Horseshoe Bay - a longer trip but same destination) at W Georgia St and Seymour. At the ferry terminal, buy a walk-on ticket for Bowen Island.

When you arrive at Snug Cove, up on the right, past the concrete wall, there is a shuttle bus service (C10 Blue Water) that would drop you off at the bottom of Cowan Road, at the intersection of Adams and Cowan. Just tell the driver. After the bus drops you off, you will take Cowan, stay left and walk up the steep hill, past the gate on the road and then take the first left up the drive; once you get to the fork in the road, head up the driveway on your right.

For the adventurous, hitchhiking on the island is also safe and reliable. (Hint: It is best to hitchhike after the Miller Road intersection at the top of the first hill. Just tell the people you want to go to Bishop’s Hill or to Cowan/Adams Road intersection.)

Look forward to seeing you!
